carin goldberg tribute

Why Tribute Goldberg?

Goldberg doesn’t shy away from being labeled a “female designer” and she very much believes gender is tied to one’s professional identity. She acknowledges she has overlapping job titles as a mother, wife, designer, and educator. In fact, Meggs wrote a postscript to his manuscript for “The Women Who Saved New York!” It began: “After completing my two-hour interview with Carin Goldberg, in connection with this article, I told her I had run out of questions. She looked me squarely in the eye and said, ‘Don’t you have any questions about the fact that this article is about women?’”

Design Approach

I approached this editorial design the same way Goldberg would, by reviving neglected historical styles, by acknowledging Goldberg as a complex human being with overlapping roles, and by attempting to achieve her level of craft and fastidiousness.
