The Challenge

The clients approached me to do the invitation and signage for their wedding day. They wanted an illustration with a portrait in the foreground and their venue in the background of the illustration. The venue was the historic Old Sugar Mill located on the delta outside of Sacramento, CA. The Old Sugar Mill is a beautiful complex of brick buildings set in a scenic landscape of wine country and river delta. The printed graphics needed to incorporate their wedding colors of dark blue, sage green, and gold with succulent botanical elements.  

The Solution

With the couple and the venue as the focus of the front of the wedding invitation, I relegated the illustrations of succulents to the back and used them as decorative elements to tie all the signage together. The color palette of earthy greens, golds and navy blue reinforced the theme. My background as a screen-printer is apparent in the illustration style.
